Monsterbass Vs Mystery Tackle Box: Which Box Is Best?

In this article I’m going to compare the Monsterbass and Mystery Tackle Box.

So if you are looking for a deep comparison between these two popular fishing subscription boxes you’ve come to the right place.

Because in today’s post I’m going to compare the Monsterbass vs Mystery Tackle Box in terms of:

  • Features
  • Baits & Lures
  • Cost & Overall Value
  • Customer Support
  • And lost more

Let’s get started!

Introducing: The Two Competitors

In the blue corner, we have the Monsterbass fishing subscription box.

Monsterbass is a premium fishing subscription box company that is 100% focused on bass fishing.

They pride themselves in providing their customers with the best bass fishing lures and baits based on each individual need.

Monsterbass has a team of professional anglers that work to select a set of baits and lures each month based upon where you live, how you fish (boat vs. bank) and your skill level.

Once you do receive your box they encourage you to provide feedback so they can make your next fishing box even better.

They offer two different box series: A Regional Pro Series and a National Series

Here are the different regional pro boxes they have available:

  • Midwest & Great Lakes Bass Box
  • Northeast Region Bass Box
  • Pacific Southwest Bass Box
  • Southern Region Bass Box
  • Northwest & Mountain Region Bass Box

They also offer a national series that is a little bit cheaper than the regional pro series but isn’t customized to your fishing region, but is more affordable.

And in the red corner, we have the Mystery Tackle Box fishing subscription box.

Mystery Tackle Box is the original monthly fishing subscription service. They have featured over a hundred of different brands in their boxes and ship out over 2 million baits a year. (that’s a ton of baits)

They offer 4 different species boxes to choose from: Bass, Inshore Saltwater, Panfish & Trout and Walleye.

In addition to these options they also offer three different fishing box options: Regular, Pro and Elite. Which we will cover more in detail later.

Which Fishing Subscription Box Has Better Baits

Perhaps the most important factor when it comes to determining which fishing subscription box is better is the baits and lures included in their boxes.

After all who wants to waste their money and be sent cheap fishing lures that don’t work.

First let’s take a look at the different lure company brands each ones offers.

Monsterbass

Monsterbass prides themselves for being a premium bass fishing subscription box service that only sends out the best brands.

Here are the most common brands that can be found in Monsterbass boxes:

  • Strike King
  • Live Target
  • Yum
  • Ware Eagle
  • Z-Man
  • Booyah
  • V&M
  • Bagley
  • Daiichi Hooks
  • Others

Mystery Tackle Box

Mystery Tackle Box’s philosophy is that people join their service to try new products and learn new fishing techniques.

For this reason, they put a wide variety of different brands of baits and lures into their boxes. As a result, they often include less known and unproven baits into their boxes.

This is great for anglers that are wanting to experiment with different brands and techniques but may not be ideal for those wanting more premium products that are tried and true.

Now that we have an idea of what kind of baits and brands we can expect, let’s take a closer look at each box.

Monsterbass vs. Mystery Tackle Box (Inside Look)

Now each box will have different baits, lures and terminal tackle included each month depending on the time of year.

This makes it difficult to do an exact comparison between the two. However here are a few video unboxings that compare each at different months.

Hopefully this will give you a better idea of what you can expect.

Both Monsterbass and Mystery Tackle Box offer a variety of different brands, baits, lures and terminal tackle at a great value.

But in terms of who offers the overall best lures and baits I would have to give Monsterbass the nod on this one.

They not only offer more premium well known products on a consistent basis. But they also customize their boxes based on the region and waters you are fishing. Making them more relevant and productive for each individual angler.

Winner: Monsterbass offers more premium brands to their fishing boxes

Which Fishing Subscription Box is The Best Overall Value

Mystery Tackle Box has been around forever and has a big following. On the other hand, Monsterbass is an up and coming company that is looking to innovate and prove themselves.

Both are quality companies, but which prescription fishing box is the better overall value?

Let’s compare prices and plans

Mystery Tackle Box

Regular ($25 in value)Pro ($40 in value)Elite ($60 in value)
Monthly $19.99Monthly $29.99Monthly $39.99
3 Month $17.993 Month $27.993 Month $38.99
6 Month $15.996 Month $25.996 Month $37.99
12 Month $14.9912 Month $24.9912 Month $36.99

Monsterbass

Regional Pro Series ($35 – $50 in value)National Series ($35 – $40 in value)
1 Month $35.001 Month $25.00
4 Months $34.003 Months $24.00
6 Months $33.006 Months $23.00
12 Month $32.0012 Months $22.00

As you can see there are a variety of different price options for both Monsterbass and Mystery Tackle boxes based on the monthly plan you select.

The regular box by Mystery Tackle Box is the most affordable option compared to Monsterbass National series (roughly a 5-dollar difference)

When comparing the more premium boxes (Regional vs Pro & Elite). Monsterbass Regional series is at a price point between Mystery Tackle Box’s Pro & Elite Boxes.

I would give Monsterbass the slight edge on this one because each box is picked based on the region you fish in making a better overall value.

Comparing the different boxes, price points, baits & plans I would say that both companies are pretty comparable from a value stand point with similar costs.

If I had to choose one, I would recommend Monsterbass over Mystery Tackle Box because they offer more premium baits (it does come at a higher price). But Mystery Tackle Box also provides a great value as well.

Winner: Draw

Which Fishing Subscription Box Has Better Customer Service

Another thing to consider when researching which fishing subscription box is right for you is what kind of customer service you’ll get and should expect.

After all who wants to purchase a subpar service from a bad company?

While researching the customer service of these two companies I found that for the most part they both offer a solid overall customer experience.

There are both willing to work with their customers and ensure they have a good experience.

Winner: It’s a draw

Monsterbass vs. Mystery Tackle Box: And the Winner Is

Now it’s time for the question that you’ve been waiting for:

“Which bass fishing subscription box is better?”. Monsterbass or Myster Tackle Box?

So to come up with an overall winner, I took lofts of factors into consideration:

  • Features
  • Bait & Lure Selection
  • Value
  • Customer Support
  • Overall Box Value

I personally think both of these fishing box companies are great, but if you had to make me pick ONE fishing box company to go with, I’d have to go with Monsterbass.

This was a really tough call to make. I honestly think you can’t go wrong with either one depending on what you are looking for.

If you are okay with paying a little bit more and getting a box that has premium baits and lures from more well-known brands. That are also customized to fit where you fish, then Monsterbass is the subscription box for you.

If you would rather try a variety of new baits and lures that aren’t quite as popular but may offer an overall better value, then you can’t go wrong with Mystery Tackle Box.

Now It’s Your Turn

And now it’s time to hear from you and your experience.
